Today, I’m taking you to eat with me at Obeigne, a donut shop that specializes in the production of artisanal yeast donuts and sweet treats located at 4721 boul. des Laurentides in Laval. I bought some, I ate them and now, let’s rate it.
The Order:
⁃ Strawberry Shortcake Donut
⁃ Nutella Hazelnut Donut
⁃ Apple Pie Donut
⁃ Boston Cream Donut
⁃ Caramel Donut
⁃ Strawberry Jam Filled Donut
Total: 22$ (cad)
Let’s start by acknowledging the nice welcoming vibe by the lady that took our order. It’s always nice when a business knows how to treat their customers. Now, let’s get into the tasting of these donuts.
The strawberry shortcake donut filling tasted exactly how it’s called - strawberry. Not too sweet, enough filling inside the donut but one thing I didn’t like is that (this is for all the six donuts we bought), they didn’t taste or feel fresh. The dough was not soft or fluffy but more on the dense side and it felt like it was maybe "leftover” donuts from the day before. I rate it a 6 out of 10.
The strawberry jam filled donut, once again not fresh, too bread like and the ratio of filling and dough was lacking. I rate it a 4 out of 10.
If you like Nutella then this one is for you. I rate it a 6 out of 10.
The Boston cream donut was good, there was a good amount of cream filling and the taste wasn’t too sweet. I rate it a 6 out of 10
The apple pie donut was my least favorite, the taste and the texture was off and I rate it a 3 out of 10.
The caramel donut, not enough caramel filling and the taste didn’t really remind me of caramel but just sugar. I rate it a 5 out of 10
If you’re claiming that your donuts are freshly made every day then that’s what I’m expecting to receive. Also, I find it odd that the box that contained the donuts was not even branded with the OBeigne logo or design. We were given just a white plain box while I’ve seen their branded donut packaging on social media. As a brand, consistency is key!
Overall, because of the lack of freshness and not enough filling in some of the donuts, I rate OBeigne 3 out of 5 stars.
